National Timescales for Zero Carbon

This is an up-to-date list [last edit 30 December 2008] of the aspirational dates by which all new buildings will be zero carbon in the listed nations:

 

UK Government: by 2016

Wales (in advance of the UK government goals ): by 2011

Scotland (takes a more pragmatic line):

  • staged increases in energy standards in 2010 and 2013 to substantially reduce carbon emissions from new buildings;
  • the aim of net zero carbon emissions for space heating, hot water, lighting and ventilation within the next 10 years, if practical;
  • the ambition of total-life zero carbon buildings by 2030;

Northern Ireland tows the line with the UK Government
